About Filepad
Filepad is a collection of 33 free tools for working with images, PDFs and text. There is no sign-up, no upload step and no watermark on what comes out.
Your files stay on your device
Most online file tools work by uploading your file to a server, processing it there and sending it back. Filepad does not. Every image and PDF tool here runs inside your browser, using the same technology that lets browsers decode video and render graphics. Your file is read into memory on your own machine, transformed there, and handed back to you. It is never transmitted anywhere, which means there is no copy on a server to leak, retain or be requested from us — we could not hand over your file if we wanted to, because we never receive it.
Why that matters
The files people compress and convert are rarely trivial. They are passport scans for a visa application, a signed contract, an X-ray, a photo of a bank statement. Uploading those to an unfamiliar server to save a few hundred kilobytes is a poor trade. On-device processing removes the trade entirely, and it is faster too — there is no upload wait and no download wait, only the work itself.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no account, no free tier and no paid tier. The site carries advertising, which is what pays for it. One tool is an exception to the on-device rule: the currency converter fetches daily exchange rates over the network, because those rates cannot be computed locally. It handles no files.
Open source
Filepad is licensed under the AGPL-3.0. That matters more than usual for a privacy claim: anyone can read the source and verify that files really are processed locally, rather than taking the assurance on trust. A privacy promise you cannot check is only a marketing line.
Languages
The interface is available in 17 languages, including proper right-to-left layouts for Arabic and Persian rather than a mirrored afterthought.
Questions
The privacy policy sets out exactly what is and is not collected, and the terms of use cover the licence and the absence of any warranty.
